Teri, don't read any further, you won't like it :P Today's FFF post is about La Isla de la Munecas, or the Island of the Dolls. It sounds like it should be full of pretty pink lace and plastic tea sets, doesn't it? Well, it's actually a macabre tourist attraction to the south of Mexico City, festooned with thousands of decomposing and mutilated dolls on display. The area is filled with canals and waterways, and in amongst these is a small uninhabited island. Don Julian Santana moved to this island in the 1950's, hoping to find peace and refuge from the modern world. However, he came to believe that the island was haunted by the ghost of a young girl who had drowned in one of the canals in the 1920's. Reports vary, but the dolls are either for the little girl's ghost to play with, or to ward off other evil spirits that roamed the area and which were scaring the little girl. As soon as I heard HDH was being sponsored this week by none other than the uber wicked, Kustom Kaskets , I knew exactly what I wanted to create for the challenge. The "Necro Neck wear" challenge is to create a piece of  original  artwork that may be chosen as a new design for Kustom Kaskets , and they will also make the winning design into a pendant for one lucky wiener!!! How cool, right?!  Earlier this week, I debuted a re purposed piece of religious sculpture that turned out quite awesome. My dear friend and  fellow team mate, Andrea, popped my Zombie Buddha into an ornate frame and I must admit, I would totally rock this piece!!!        I actually did come up with an original piece of art to submit for this challenge as well. I bought this adorable little 3" x 3" canvas and easel a while back and thought it was the perfect size for this challenge. I realize it may be a bit large for an actual pendant, but it did keep my scale in check. It was nice to work

Here's one for the guys!  Can't you just hear "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey" in the background?! 50's Emo Christian: Yep.  I went pretty traditional with this one ;)  Although, I did sneak an extra skully in there... I couldn't help it.  LOVE the shoes!  I went a little darker on the skin tone shadow (E13) and me likey! And was hair THE thing in the 50's?  Me thinks yes.  However, this guy doesn't have that duck-butt-'do... sorry, I keep flashing back to "Grease" :)  And, yes, I had to add the blue streak in his hair... he IS an EMO after all. Meep, I nearly forgot it was Friday today, and we couldn't leave you without a bit of fiendish fun to start your weekend, so here's A Softer World by Emily Horne and Joey Comeau . A touch of surreality (?) to go with our Dali challenge :P Copyright © 2010 by Emily Horne and Joey Comeau

When I first read the idea of a Salvador Dali inspired challenge I was very intrigued and immediately began  designing (in my head) my project. I opted for a mixed media kind of project, using various Dali images and quotes. I used an 8" x 10" stretched canvas, painted with metallic shades of teal, silver, purple, and black.   I knew this Dali image from The Octopode Factory would come in handy. I also found a use for some creepy doll eyes, and destashed a bunch of brads. The melting clock is another Octopode image. I used Glossy Accents to make the watch face shiny and dimensional. I added a photo of Dali and Walt Disney, a couple of cool quotes and some decoupaged mulberry paper.  I used more quotes around the outside of the canvas and sealed everything with polyurethane. That's right folks, today we celebrate the birth of one of HDH's Macabre Minions, Andrea !  Happy birthday, girl!  Obviously you haven't received your card yet, since I haven't sent it, but maybe me posting it today will be of some comfort :) Who DOESN'T want a cocktail on their birthday?  Come on... at least one, right?  I just LOVE this Tickled Pink image, Lilith... and I thought the look on her face summed up what many of us feel about birthdays :) Not that Andrea feels that way, but you know what I'm sayin'. I hope your day was fantastic, Andrea... thanks for all you do here at HDH, and have a cocktail on me!
