HDH Mutinous Monday #004 and a little housekeeping...

First up... for those that have won prizes and have NOT received them, please email the Mistress:  barbi007@kc.rr.com ... she is obviously slipping :)

Next... Mutinous Monday!  I totally forgot about posting this way back when SBS released the Halloween Steampunks...dammit!  Better late than never, I guess:

Meet DracoLOVE him!  I can't find him in the SBS store, but the link takes you to the section in which he should be found.  The others in that line are pretty awesome, too!  The sentiment here is from Pink By Design's A Haunting We Will Go.  Martha's Scarey Fence & Grass edge punches and a little Echo Park Apothescarey paper line finishes this off.

I'll have more Mutinous Mondays for you, however I am up to my pumpkins with classes & holiday activities for the remainder of the year!  I seriously don't remember life being this busy a few years ago... it sucks to be a grown-up sometimes ;)

HDH Mutinous Monday #003...

I'll say it...

I miss my Macabre Minions!

Yep, I can't wait for the new year so we can get our creep on again :)
Until then, how about a little sumpin' sumpin' from The Masterful Mistress of the Macabre?

Since the next installment of the Twilight Saga premiered this week, I thought I'd share this little gem:

Do you get the Twi-vibe?  Well, at least a little Gothic-vampy thing anyway.
I just love the stick pins and that FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC blood-red rosette ribbon... yummy.  And do you see the tiny token spider in the corner?  Kinda cute :)

What do you think?

HDH Mutinous Monday #002

Whoops!  Almost didn't make it :)  So, just a super-quick post tonight...

I {bleeding heart} my new Tim Holtz Sizzix dies!
Lookie:

(Candlelight Fright and Mini Bat & Skull Set)
More of that Moxxie Midnight Dreary line... I hope you're not sick of that yet, because I will be using it a lot more >:)

Anyway, super-simple card, but it definitely rates a "me likey"... no?

11.11.2011

A little Voodoo...

Well, a Voodoo image on a card, anyway.  I had been wanting to color up this Delicious Doodles image F.O.R.E.V.E.R. and just never found the time.  Well, lookie:

Isn't she wondermous?  I love this image, even if the rest of the card is just "ok"... Teri, I want to draw like you when (if?) I grow up :)  I think the next time I color her up, I'll go all "Hell's fire" on her... flame hair and all... ooooooo, me likey.

Don't you just LOVE that one stick pin... ouch... are you trying to say something, Teri?  Were you miffed at the hubby or something?!  :)

That's it for today, stalkers... I hope you enjoyed it!
What do you think?

2011 Mutinous Monday #001

That's right folks... it's the first Mutinous Monday from the Macabre Minions!  The Minions need a little R&R and have declared mutiny until 2012, so no challenge this week... but I still wanted to give you a little sumpin' sumpin' to satiate your HDH appetite :)

I even posted on my "normal" blog last night if you want more mainstream :)  Yes... I've been busy.  Anyway, back to a little wickedness...

First up, the last couple of cards from my Halloween card class back in September:

You can't tell, but there is some DELIGHTFULLY sinful, black-velvet crocheted trim from May Arts on the tag... yummy.  And of course, more of that awesome Midnight Dreary line of paper from Moxxie:  Tomb it May Concern & Dead on Arrival.  I rolled a paper rose and finished it off with a dew drop center... LOVE it.

Quite elegant, no?  The top half of this 12x12 paper has a pinkish hue and blended together with the bottom half's greenish hue.  The salmon pink really creates a truly non-traditional Halloween card, but it works!

And here's a favorite of the class:

It would have been 100x better if I would've had my Tim Holtz raven die at the time instead, but this bird worked out ok.  And there's the infamous MS Grass punch... what did I ever do without it?

Moxxie's Feelin' Vine paper... LOVE!  I created the fence with the Scor-Pal and a MS Iron Gate edge punch... turned out pretty awesome me thinks.... simple and detailed at the same time.

That's it for today, but the Minions and I will still be posting random bits now and then... they may be fortuitous, frivolous, fanciful or foul, but you'll want to check back often :)  You just never know when I will be in a random-prize-winner-from-the-comments kind of mood for the next couple of months... hmmm...

**One more thing... we are now gladly taking sponsors for the 2012 HDH Macabre Monday challenge calendar!  Just send a note to The Masterful Mistress via email (link located in the sidebar).

Vampire Friendly Greetings / HDH113

I have been trying all week long to make something
uber creative and awesome for the final challenge of October
here at Haunted Design House.

The challenge is "Heinously Haunted Houses".
I live in a house that I have decorated and staged to
give the appearance of hauntedness all year long.
I prefer, "Apothecary Chic".

Just your everyday mantle decor.

The framed print is one of my newest acquisitions.
It is a signed and numbered print from the brilliant artist,

It is a painting of a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal.
Mmmmmm? Hmmmm?
I adore this piece!

I did try to create some really cool houses from wood,
but they turned to crap in my hands.
I think my mojo has left the building.

So I returned to a project I was working on earlier this
year, but never got around to actually finishing.

A nice little "Welcome" plaque for your foyer or front door.

This is a completely handmade plaque.
The coffin shape is cut from MDF board, and then sanded and
base coat painted with black acrylic.

I then hand sculpted a Vampyr skull out of polymer clay
to embellish the plaque.

I also fashioned a fang from poly clay and added it to the piece as well.
I am pretty happy with how it turned out, but that hand painting of the
swirls and the "Velcome" was a serious challenge for me.
I guess I need to paint free hand more for the practice.
I do plan to make more and put some for sale in my Etsy shop.

Thanks for sticking with me this long.
I will be back with new projects in the coming days/weeks,
as the Minions are taking a well deserved break from the weekly
challenges here at HDH, to focus on new projects for the coming Hexmas
Please still drop by the HDH blog on Mondays to see what type of
Mutiny the Minions have cooked up all on their own!
Mutinous Mondays from here on out, until the new year.

HDH113 & an extra...

Fantastic work by the Minions & participants so far!  I am LOVING this challenge :)  But as usual, I ran out of time to play, so I've got a couple more cards to show you from my class that I taught in September... and yes, one actually fits the challenge ;P

This one uses another Midnight Dreary paper by Moxxie (Dead on Arrival)... LOVE it.  I trimmed up a tree diecut (Tim Holtz) and added a bit o' ribbon.

Here's my challenge card :)  More MD Moxxie paper & another Tim Holtz die (rickety house), and a MS fence punch.

This shows the dimension a little better (pop-dots are my friends), but the lighting is off.  I kinda like it :)

Well kids, you've got one more day to join in on the HDH113 Heinously Haunted Houses challenge for a chance to win a fun little prize pack.  Got haunts?

Whoops... Masters of the Macabre x3...

(Note: entries not following the guidelines are not eligible for prizes or badges)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Can you believe it's finally here?!  All of us here at HDH hope that all of our stalkers have a eerily fantastic night of thrills and chills.  Be sure to leave a comment of how you are spending this evening... you never know if the Mistress will be handing out random treats ;)

And just a heads-up:  HDH will be taking a break from our formal challenges for the rest of the year after this week's challenge.  Now don't fret!  We will still be posting, and throwing out a few challenges, but the Macabre Minions definitely need a little yard time away from the dungeon :)

You'll definitely want to keep checking in with HDH... because even though the winter holidays seem to take over everything, we at HDH pride ourselves in keeping the creepiness alive all year long!!

Ok, macabre fans... your challenge this week:

HDH113
Heinously Haunted Houses

You are to create a dark, Gothic, or Halloween-based art piece
that features a haunted house as the focus.
This IS Haunted Design House after all :)  The more decrepit, deteriorating or disturbing... the better!

And the Masterful Mistress of the Macabre has a fun little prize pack for the winner this week:

(12) 6x6 papers, ribbons, Halloweenie bandages (for your boo boo's), pencils, glow-in-the-dark bracelet, haunted house rubber stamp, fleur bling, jacko Pez dispenser, wind-up skeleton toy, Tim Holtz cling rubber stamp, & a pair of skeleton hand gloves (my favorite!).

The Macabre Minions are ready as ever to keep the
Hallowe'en party going with these awesome works of inspiration!

Sultana of Sinister Lynx:

Fantastic mini!  Look at all of those details... awesome!

Pumpkinhead and a documented fail

Well I am usually not one to take photographic evidence
of one of my failed craft projects. I usually just can it and
act as if it never happened.
This one is more of a cautionary tale because I don't want
others to make the same mistakes and experience the same
frustration without proper warning.

I was at Michael's last year around this time, and picked up
a couple of those "do it yourself" vinyl toy kits.
One a Frankenstein, and the other, a Pumpkinhead.
"Perfect!", thought I, as I struggled with this week's MM challenge.

The kit comes with stickers and permanent markers. I decided to
fore go the included cheapo markers and use my awesome Copics!
Epic fail for me. Boo.
The markers stayed tacky and then once I started using the black marker
it was all down hill from there.

In frustration, I sprayed the figure with alcohol and watched it melt.

Totally stained from the Copics, I decided to try and paint the figure
with acrylic paints. LOTS of coats of acrylic paint.
No more failed photos taken at this point, but it looks better
than the Copic catastrophe.

So I opted for clay.

The mighty Pumpkinhead sits amongst the
debris of his anger and hungers for revenge!

I don't know how he actually kills, as he has no arms
or a mouth, but I'm spent this week.
You figure it out.

Have a spooky weekend!!!
See ya on Monday!!!

10.28.2011

A not-nearly-creepy-Pumpkinhead-enough post...

Where does the time go... seriously?  I can't believe that this is Halloween weekend already!  The big Shriner's Halloween party is tomorrow night... we'll be busy tonight and tomorrow setting up, partying, and then tearing it all down.  I don't know if I'll muster enough energy to scare the kiddies Monday night ;)

I have been busy painting a dozen tombstones & cutting out vinyl names with the help of my buddy's Gypsy for the Cricut... thanks, Dawn!  It was a lifesaver.  My living room is a graveyard right now...

I can't wait to see everything come together tomorrow... I'll be taking photos!

Anyway... how about a little bit o' cardmaking?  These were the cards we made in my Copic class earlier this month:

The last photo is a close-up to show how 3-d the 3rd card is.  I LOVE coloring on kraft cardstock.  It gives such a different look... definitely not bright like the white cardstock we usually use.

Well, that's my HDH112 Movie Madness challenge entry!  I'm sorry it's not as creepy as it should be, but you still love me, right?  :)

Stamps:  Stampendous (1st), Pink by Design (sentiments), Stamper's Anonymous (leaf),
                 Impression Obsession (2nd & 3rd Jacko's and Grunge background on 2nd)
Paper:  Echo Park, We R MK, Canvas Corp, Bazzill
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo & Cocoa
Other:  Copic markers, Cheap Trims (twills & rick rack), Creative Expressions (twine), PTI (button)
