A while back Susan posted a picture of a girl with a zipper on her face which was pretty cool and gruesome, well we have a tutorial for this from one very talented guy called Petrilude. He has tonnes of tutorials on gruesome/scary/cool makeup.
This looks so gruesome but with a few of the right makeup products you are well on your way to creating some amazing grusome halloween makeup.

Hallowe'en Nuptials

I don't know about most of you, but when I got married some
15 years ago, I wasn't even aware of how cool my wedding could have been.
I opted for the traditional(ish) wedding, with a white(ish) dress,
normal cake and the only thing we did do different was have our
ceremony over looking Lake Tahoe from a cliff. There was a boat
in the water during our vows that kept yelling, "Jump!". Funny.
Anyhoo, if I could do it all over again I would! I'd still pick the same guy (even if
he doesn't share my love of the macabre or Hallowe'en - I know, I know),
but a totally different ceremony, cake, and dress!
Here is what I'm talking about....

So very beautiful and elegant.

Now I could probably sneak these little lovelies in underneath
that gorgeous gown.

I like the idea of showing the bridesmaids in their
true form. Really, it's usually the truth.

Every wedding needs an ice sculpture!!

And a cake or two...

It totally goes with the dress!

I like the bright colors and the awesome spider webbed
candelabras at every table.

If only I knew then, what I know now...
I'd still be paying for that wedding!!

Ok, macabre fans... your challenge this week:
HDH110
"Gods and Monsters"
"Gods and Monsters"
You are to create a dark, Gothic, or Halloween-based art piece
that uses, includes or is inspired by a God and/or a Monster.
You can draw inspiration from the
Gods or the Monsters of Greek Mythology.
You can also go for the
classic movie Monster or some bizarre divination from
tales of long ago.
Remember, the Minions and the Mistress prefer things more
on the scary and creepy side.
We are thrilled to announce this
week's sponsor,

I recently had the pleasure of receiving my order of charms from
The Charm Barn. I was so blown away by the quality of the charms
I had to email Diane and let her know how impressed I was with her
products and service. She was nice enough to offer up a gift certificatefor
$10 to The Charm Barn,
so one lucky winner will get to check out these
gorgeous charms for themselves.
They have some of the most awesome charms for Hallowe'en right now!
The Macabre Minions have out-done themselves once again!

Spotlight on Jessica Joslin

We Minions are always on the lookout for amazingly macabre and unique art. How about this? Done by rogue osteologist Jessica Joslin. What a fab blend of Skeletons and Steampunk! Click on her name to go to her website, or HERE for and interview and more pix!

Boy would I love this hanging from the ceiling!
And how about a little circus action?

Is the the coolest or what? Doubt I could afford any of these amazing creations, but Jessica does have a book HERE with photos of her work. Guess what's on MY Christmas list!

Catching up on the Countdown to Halloween . . .
Yup, we Minions have been really lax in posting Countdown to Halloween stuff. I know, I know, it's our favourite time of year but it's also our busiest time of year. Ack, no excuses, here's some fun stuff we'd like to highlight to help get you all in the mood for this wondrous holiday.
I found this beautiful animation video, The Kingdom of Witches, created in 2008 by Nocturnaloner. Here's what s/he has to say about it:
I know, I know, it's not funny or gruesome, it's beautiful, and I love it!

This is a Halloween animated short I created, based on the silhouette art of Jan Pienkowski. The music is Labyrinth of Dreams by Nox Arcana. It was made as a DVD greeting card for my friends.

Countdown to Halloween!!!
October 1st. That's right folks... it's officially THAT time of year! And though this blog is Halloween all-year-round, it is time to kick it up a notch! Haunted Design House is proud to be a 2011 CryptKeeper participant at the Countdown to Halloween site:
Just click on the badge above to be taken to a HUGE list of houses (blogs) at which you can go trick-or-treating or play ding-dong-ditch... your call! Arts, crafts, factoids, photos, stories, lore... you just never know what the CryptKeepers will be doling out!
This will be going on ALL MONTH LONG!
Sooooo, what have I got for you today? Well, since Make it Crafty is our Macabre Monday challenge sponsor this week, I thought I'd show off a couple of cards. The first is what I call the "normal" version... the second is MUCH more HDH style:
I used MIC's Forest Flower & Alyssa Elven Princess digi's.
I know! TOTALLY un-Halloweenie or creepy in the least. My bad. Creepy Glowbugg DID ask me what the hell I was thinking when I chose these two images for a Halloween blog challenge. After a few choice words by me... many containing the letter "F"... or maybe it was just one word repeated several times... I chose to show how to make something sweet into something slightly sinister:
MUCH better, right?! Kinda like an elven vampire fairy? Her lips got completely out of hand, but I wasn't going to start over at that point! So instead, I'll show a close-up of the cute 'shrooms.
Yeah... I know... return of the "Barbi-dots"... that's just how I roll.
That's it for today, kids... but check back often here at Haunted Design House, as well as at all the other 2011 CryptKeepers' blogs, throughout the month for more Halloween happenings!

Wretched Wednesday - You're making a scene!
Horrific Hump Day Haunters!!!
Can you feel the crispness in the air yet?
I can't. We're still flirting with the 90's here in California,
but I am getting a bit giddy with all of the Hallowe'en decorations
out in the stores.
A little retail therapy really helped my mojo this week.
I kinda went cwazy on this challenge.
We are challenging you to make a Hallowe'en inspired scene
for this week's Macabre Monday.
We are very fortunate to be sponsored by
We have some great prizes to award to this
week's chosen Gruesome Twosome, so play along!!
Since I am to lazy too make a step card, I decided to really make
a labor intensive project using a thrift store frame, lots of card board,
some MS punches, lots of glitter and Spica pens,
and some awesome MIC digis!!
Okay, first I painted the thrift store frame with black, silver, and
purple acrylic paints. I used black as the base coat and then
used a dry brush technique to apply the silver and purple paints.
While that was drying, I colored in the Mini Monztas from MIC
using Copics. After fussy cutting the images I used a Spica pen to
go around the outside of the images for some Vampiric sparkle.
Now let's not forget that Haunted House! That detailed baby was
quite a work out! LOTS of details!!!!
I had to get out the magnifying specs for that one!
I layered in some QuicKutz and Martha Stewart graveyard punches to
give more depth to the scene. I even managed to pop in a teeny tiny
skull on one of the headstones!
I popped everything up on corrugated cardboard in varying thicknesses.
I topped off both of my Vampyres with Glossy Accents.
It makes them a bit more sturdy, especially the little
lady since she is outside of the glass.
I love this house image!!!
I Stickled the windows to make them sparkle,
and outlined the entire house in Sakura Stardust pen.
I also added some rhinestones. More sparkles!
I think this will make a nice addition to my Hallowe'en
decorations this year.
There is still time to play along with us this week.
If you like these images, they (and others) are up for grabs as this
week's prize schwag. But ya gotta play!

"You're making a scene!!"
You are to create a dark, Gothic, or Halloween-based art piece
that depicts a Hallowe'en scene.
This week we are being sponsored by Make it Crafty!!!
Make it Crafty has a wonderful selection of beautifully drawn
digital images (and new red rubber is on it's way too!), and
some really stunning background scenes and objects.
Zoe over at MIC has some awesome new images just begging to
be colored up for Hallowe'en! She has offered up two really
generous prizes for our chosen Gruesome Twosomes this week!
This is a perfect oppurtunity to get started on those Hallowe'en cards
and decorations!!
We want to see creepy trees, flying bats, trick or treaters, scary monsters,
cackling witches, drooling ghouls, everything but the kitchen sink!
Make it vintage, modern, scary, or serene.
The Macabre Minions have created some superb pieces!

Check it...
The Mistress has a card today!!! I know... un-freakin-believable.
It's even for the current HDH107 Appalling Apothecary Macabre Monday challenge!
I am a bit of a cheater though. This was actually done a couple of months ago! ACK! I know. It was one of six cards I did for my Elegantly Eerie card class last week. I had 25 people show for the class, and the three extra kits were gone by the time it was over! Sah-weet! I used all of Moxxie's new Midnight Dreary paper line... LOVE LOVE LOVE every single paper in that line!
I will say that it took FOREVER to cut and punch all of the pieces for the kits. I definitely don't make any for my time, which completely sucks. BUT, I do enjoy teaching. Here's another card from that class:
Super easy, but I just couldn't bring myself to cover that beautiful house! You can't see it here, but I ended up adding clear glitter pen over the eaves and the right side of roofs & projections... and in each of the windows for a little candlelight effect. Obviously this wasn't one of the tricky ones, but I'll be showing the others over a few more posts :)
That ribbon... ooooooooh me likey a lot! It is velvet w/ a crocheted edge and it is crazy expensive. I couldn't help it... it had me at black velvet. And don't ask me about the effed up lighting on the second shot... it totally looks freakin' yellow.
That's it for now... and you've still got about 18 hours left to play along with this week's challenge!!
