Merry Freakin' Christmas...

Ahhh... the holidays... HDH style `:)

Yes, the endless pursuit to get the winter cards done before the spring thaw... I've been pretty good the last two years, but I'm waaaay behind this year.  Yes, I know... it's only July... but I just don't like doing 150 cards that all look alike... you know what I'm sayin'?
Sooooooo, for my very special friends, I get to make doosies like this one!  They make me happy... in a twisted, demented, totally WTF kinda way :)

What spurned this bit of happiness today?  Two challenges... and they're not even mine!  I know... I'm totally psyched (no, not psycho... well, not really)   :)  There are probably more challenges to which this little baby would apply, but I'm just stickin' with these two:
Stampotique (Christmas in July)
The Burtonesque Dolls (Nightmare Before Christmas)
I started with the Tickled Pink sketch, but strayed too far AND I didn't realize I had to use certain available stamps, so I'll have to work on that one again  :)

Stamps:  Winter (Stampotique), sentiment (unknown)
Paper:  kraft & black cardstock (TAC), & Bazzil cardstocks
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo, VersaFine Onyx
Other:  Copic markers, black gems & tulle, foam tape

Winter is just one of the creepiest images... me likey alot!  And the sentiment couldn't be more perfect, right?!  Yep... there are several times during the season that I've said this very thing... SEVERAL times.

I actually finished up a card for the Tiddly Inks blog hop on Thursday!  Un-freakin-believable!  AND I'm hoping to "formally" introduce y'all to the Sisterhood of the Sinister aka HDH's Macabre Minions on Friday, so tune in!

An oldie... but goodie

The Oz is slowly working up some magic for us, but until all of the chemo is out of the way, we will have to be content with this bit o' beautimous-ness from a few months back... check THIS out!!  Love love LOVE it!  I'm so glad she reminded us of it {sigh}  :)  Big hug, Oz!

This could be some fun, kids....

Right?  Now cross your fingers to see if I can get something done in time for it!!
Go HERE for details on how to join the fun.

HDH048 - Wayward Words

HDH Macabre Monday Rules:
1. Create a dark and macabre SOMETHING (card, scrap page, altered item, whatever) that follows the specific Macabre Monday challenge given. Cutesy is fine, but creepy is better :)
2. You have until the following Sunday night @ 5pm central time to post your creation and please leave a direct-link back here.
3. If you upload to any online galleries (TACPCC, S&S, PCP, SCS, etc.), please tag the title using HDH048.
4. Weekly giveaways!  Some weeks will be loaded with loot, others not-so-much... but the thrill is in the win, right?!  Some prizes shall be by random drawing, others hand picked... and I'm not telling you ahead of time :)
5. I'll be selecting a weekly Gruesome Twosome (my top two favorite creations) from all the players. At the end of every month these will be compiled and a Master of Macabre will be selected and will receive a little giftie from me... this could be stamp sets, handmade items, papers, halloweenie embellishments... you just never know.

Ok, my little pretties... your challenge this week:
Wayward Words

You are to create a dark, Gothic, or Halloween page, project or card using text/words as the MAIN focus.  Poetry, prose, riddle, rhyme, text, quotes or statements... as long as it's got a wicked or creepy edge, it works!

Check it!  Did I surprise you?!  I'm posting my challenge card on time!  And not only that... I've got some treats in store for you.  A few of the Macabre Minions will be strutting their stuff today... so be sure to scroll down and check them out!  I'm planning on introducing HDH's Sisterhood of the Sinister this week along with their bio's so please stay tuned!  If you can't wait that long, check their blog links in the sidebar :)

But first, we'll talk about this quick (in theory) and easy card I made.  I've had this fabulous quote stamp forever and have only used it a few times!  Mostly for backgrounds... not today!  Such beautiful words need to be up front!

Stamps:  quote (unknown), skull background (Mrs. O'Leary's)
Paper:  Bazill & black (TAC) cardstocks
Ink:  Onyx VersaFine, VersaMark, Noir Palette
Other:  Transcendence EP, Tim Holtz edge die, Scor-Bug, black rose trim (Am. Crafts), ribbon (Michaels), misc. gems

And now... for some additional eye candy-corn:

 Susan (Digital Demon)

Donna (Creepy Cricut Cween)

The rest of the Macabre Minions are busy {insert cracking whip sound here} and will be dazzling you soon!  Please pop by Susan's & Donna's blogs for additional info about their work shown here!

HDH047 - surprise!

I got something done for my challenge this week!  And not only for MY challenge, but also for Stamp It Crazy's challenge, too :)  Love ya' SIC Barb!

I'll admit it... I started this card last week for The Burtonesque Dolls' challenge "The Burton Boys".  This image is PERFECT for that... oh well... c'est la vie.  At least I finished it... and me likey alot.

Stamps:  A Man A Mess- Goth39 (Stamp It Crazy), Background Soup (TAC), That Guy (retired TAC)

Paper:  black cs (TAC), Neenah white cs, random turquoise cs

Other:  hardware (WeRMK & Karen Foster), spring, jewlry wire, Turquoise Glimmer Mist, 1/16" hole punch, super cool web trim gifted by Creepy Glowbugg (thanks, man!)

Copics:  0, BG72, G21, G85, W2

The turquoise mist shows up awesomely on the black cardstock!  In real life it is way better than the photos... trust me.  I know the wire is a bit wonky, but I guess the rest of the card is, too :)  It's fun to see the card open and light spill through the teensie little punched holes.

Do you dig the spring & large brads?!  Me too!  I might have to go on the search for more springs... I've got a bunch of the brads, although some are antique brass & copper.  Oooooo.... the copper & brass would look all steampunk, no?!  Hmmm....

OH!  And don't forget that there is only a couple of days left for current Freaker's Free-for-All challenge!  How much easier can a "do whatever ya' want" challenge be?!  :)

What do you think?

The contest ends Saturday night July 17th, so check the SBS blog for details.

And now... on to the the lovely Summer Betty!

Isn't she awesome?  For this card, I wanted Betty to be a vamp.  So instead of tanning herself by sunlight, she's getting a moon-tan :)  I added a little white lace Stickles to the moon & top of the umbrella as well as some little gray gems to Betty's suit, hair batty & umbrella.

Definitely one of my faves of the release... cute spiderweb sarong, strategically placed bat, and the webbie beach umbrella.  Me thinks she has a bit of a "come hither" look, no?  :)  And do you see the texture of the moon... me likey!

Digi:  Summer Betty
Paper:  Around the Block dp, Penelope & basic black cardstocks (TAC), Neenah cardstock
Ink:  Noir Palette
Other:  skully trim (JoAnn's), green webbie trim (May Arts?), Yellow Bicycle moon transparency, White Lace Stickles

Creepy here....

Greetings!
Creepy Glowbugg here with a card sample for this week's
Macabre Monday, "Freaker's Free-for-All" challenge.
This is the card I made in my head for last week's
"Wacko Jack-os" Macabre Monday.
As usual, I never actually made the card, until a week later.
I really wanted to try this technique with Stazon, acetate, Glossy Accents, and glitter.
This is the end result.
I love it! I am all about the sparkly colors!
I made a few pieces while I was on a roll, so you can expect to
see more of this technique very soon.
Can I just say that YouTube is a real fount of crafter info.
I found out how to make my own glimmer sprays and stamp cleaner,
not to mention a million new techniques to try.
Priceless knowledge.
Hope this inspires you to play along this week, and maybe even try
a new technique (I'm a poet and didn't know it!).

Thank you to Barb, the Mistress of the Macabre herself,
for inviting me and the other 'minions' to be a part of this unique and
perfectly putrid blog!

Hugs from the creepy chick!

HDH047 - Freaker's Free-for-All

HDH Macabre Monday Rules:
1. Create a dark and macabre SOMETHING (card, scrap page, altered item, whatever) that follows the specific Macabre Monday challenge given. Cutesy is fine, but creepy is better :)
2. You have until the following Sunday night @ 5pm central time to post your creation and please leave a direct-link back here.
3. If you upload to any online galleries (TACPCC, S&S, PCP, SCS, etc.), please tag the title using HDH047.

Freaker's Free-for-All

You are to create a dark, Gothic, or Halloween page, project or card using whatever the hell ya' want!!  That's right, baby... a true free-for-all... no rules... no suggestions... no limits :)  Well, the ONLY suggestion would be that they should be REALLY dark and creepy this week... you know, Halloween is a mere 110 days away!

I think that all of the jack-o entries last week really got me in the mood for Halloween.  You guys are awesome!  And I now have a few wonderful jack-o carving links that have been lovingly bookmarked {smiling}
Wanna know what sucks, though?  I will not be able to get anything done for this week's challenge!  I know.

I SUCK... and not in a good way.

However, I do have a wonderful excuse and it's not even made up!  I am working at my day job all week (good AND bad, all at the same time), AND I will be teaching classes at the house (papercrafting & stamping), AND I have a super fun long weekend starting Friday (fun stamping weekend with some fellow TAC demos... as well as teaching Copic coloring!).  So, as you can see, unless I can pull something outta my... ummm... by some stroke of geniusness get something done Thursday night, you will have to do without me.
{sniffling... chin quivering... }

There WILL be two Simply Betty posts this week, though... only because I had a deadline :)  There will be some great build up to the July 15th release day and hop, so be sure to clicky over there
{pointing to SBS DT list in the sidebar}

Thanks, guys!  I'll make it up to ya'... swear!
Really.
Promise.
I totally mean it.
{conceals horns beneath halo VERY well}

Whoops! My bad...

... I TOTALLY freakin' forgot to share some of my favorite carved pumpkins!

I'll admit it, these are those fake hobby store pumpkins & the patterns are from those carving booklets that are aplenty around October.

BUT I DID carve them myself... does that count?  I just couldn't bear having to take the many hours of carving a real pumpkin so intricately only to watch him rot away (although I REALLY do like how they look rotten!!).

The top one is a haunted house (hard to tell in this pic), spider next, and the bottom one was made with stencil shapes from Martha Stewart.

This one is really big and has three faces all "welded" together:  a screaming ghoul, a skelly/reeper, & Dracula on the right.  I had one of those blinking lights in the damn thing, so this was the best picture I could get... the three faces wrap over half-way around the pumpkin.

I just LOVE pumpkins... really I do.

HDH046 Wacko Jacko's... done!

Well it took me until tonight, but I did my own challenge!  And check it... two posts in the same day!  I'll wait a moment while you haul you fanny back into your chair...
...
...
...
:)

Soooooooo back to the wacked jacked card for this evening.  I apologize right now for the beyond crappy photos.  Obviously if the sun isn't shining & I have to shoot them under my OTT light, ALL IS SUCKY.  I even played with the color balance in PhotoShop... of which I know just enough to be dangerous.

BUT I can tell you that in real life, this is pretty cool... IF I do say so myself.  Do ya' think I got enough jacko's??  I have a couple more, but me thinks this should do :)

Me likey the dimension to this bad boy... I used foam tape & pop dots to vary the heights of the jacko's.  I also used two different orange cardstocks & white... not diggin' the white... made the orange WAY too freakin' bright {hey... that rhymed! :)}

Stamp companies:  The Angel Company (TAC), Stamp It Crazy, Missy B's, Judikins, & SU.
Paper:  Rusty Pickle dp, Bazzill & TAC cardstocks
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo
Other:  MS border punches
Copics:  E09, E35, E57, G14, G28, V99, YG05, YR04, YR07, YR18

Oh, by the way, to the first person that comments and says they want 'em, I've got 16 of these pumpkins stamped that I'll send out.  The gi-freakin'-normous Judikins' one isn't in there, but the rest are.  My favorite?  It's a toss up between gi-fri Judikins' and the Stamp It Crazy one (extreme left)!

So..... have you done anything for this challenge yet?  This is your friendly reminder...
don't make me get the flyin' monkeys!

Simply Betty Sketch Challenge!

Hey all you challenge fans!  Here's one for you:  the Simply Betty Stamps blog is hosting a sketch challenge that will run through July 29th (11:59pm Eastern time).  That's right... about three weeks, so there is PLENTY of time for you to try this baby out:

And guess what the prize is for winning this challenge?  One lucky winner will get to be a Guest Designer for Simply Betty Stamps in August!  Guest Designer means FREE images to play with... helloooo...  TOTALLY worth trying out the sketch, no?!

As soon as I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted to use Max & Li-Li!  Doesn't Max look like he wants to pet Li-Li?  Surely he wouldn't bite... well... maybe.  Since I printed these digi's prior to sizing them properly, I needed to figure out a way to make it work.  Hellooooooo forced perspective :)  You are my friend.  Doesn't it look like Max is standing in the background with Li-Li up front?  Simply by using a trapezoid instead of a rectangle.  Me likey.

Had I kept the rectangle shape, Li-Li would have appeared to be some crazy huge monstrous kitty... not that it would be a BAD thing :)

And did her eyes not come out freakin' awesome?  And what about her texture?  I know!  Copic blending solution, you are my friend, too :)  A scrap of an old washcloth and some solution, and Li-Li is all textured up.

Digi's:  Max & Li-Li (Simply Betty)
Rubber Stamp:  Spunky Sprite Girls (sentiment- TAC)
Paper:  Cougar white cardstock, Winchester cardstocks (TAC)
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo, Palette Burnt Umber
Other:  EK Success & MS border punches, Tim Holtz embossing folder, Scor-bug, Fancy Pants felt border, silver stardust gel pen
Copics:  0, BV20, BV23, E31, E35, E57, E59, V93, V95, V99, YR20, YR23, YR24

Don't forget to pop over to the SBS blog to see what the rest of the SBS Design Team created using the sketch (I can tell you, they are all awesome) and to link up your own creation for a chance to win!

7.06.2010

Yet another little announcement :)

Are you guys jones'ing for an actual card on this freakin' blog?!!  Now that a lot of the housekeeping has been done, how about a little fun?!

I am super excited to tell you all that I am one of the newest members of the Simply Betty Stamps design team!  Yes, Lynx TOTALLY caught the new badge in my sidebar... clever girl :)

The SBS blog will be hosting monthly challenges AND there is going to be a new release on July 15th, so you might want to go follow to be updated!  In fact, Betty has a fun way to win all SIX of the new releases going on RIGHT NOW!

Yes, I know... SBS are a bit cute... BUT if you will notice there is a subtle appearance of skulls, bats & spiders!  Love it.  I call it creepy-cute.

Stamps:  London, sentiment (unknown source)
Paper:  black & premium white cs (TAC), green & amber cardstocks (Bazzill)
Other:  Michael's $1 ribbon (I know!  effing fabulous, right?), pearls (Michael's), clear Stardust gel pen
Copics:  0, C1, C3, E000, E00, E11, E57, G12, G14, G17, G85, V93, V95, V99, YR20, YR23, YR24

So, what do you think?!  Don't you LOVE the sentiment?  I should probably make a stockpile of these ;)

HDH Eerie Inspiration Team...

Ok, so the general consensus on the whole design team thing is this:

1.  Macabre Mondays must stay... which we knew already :)
I had no intention of NOT having MM... but thanks for confirming that!
2.  keep it small... no need to have too many cooks in the kitchen
3.  use and abuse (in a good way) the Gruesome Twosomes & Masters of the Macabre
4.  have a list on the sidebar of upcoming challenges to give more time
5.  keep it casual... no dungeon time necessary if a deadline is missed :)

Sooooooooo.  All that being said, I'm going to start listing upcoming challenges in my sidebar.  Not today, but soon :)  And we all know that I am not a formal kinda gal, so no issues there.  In this case, I agree... small is good... I mean a small group :)

I do like the idea of past GT's & MM's making up the team.  Crazy part is that we've got 43 weeks of GT's & 9 or 10 MM's!  So that is where we'll start.  I went through to see how many people received more than three GT badges to date.  My top five GT's are:
Lynx (big surprise!), Oz (love you, babe!), Creepy Glowbugg (my TB soulmate), Donna (Cricut Wonderwoman), and Susan (digital rock star)

So, if any of you Fab Five are up to it, I'd love to enlist your help.  Oz, baby, I know you won't be up to it, but you are still on my list, girl!  We miss you and are here when you are up and causing trouble :)
My next group of top GT's are:  Teri, Alex, Nans, & Kristen... if you all would like to be on standby for the next round (whenever THAT is) I'd love it :)

Well, my Eerie Inspiration Team, what is the next step?  Should I start a yahoo group so that the whole team can communicate at once?  This way we can come up with some fun ideas to keep it all fresh... in a totally decrepit kinda way? :)  Please email me at:  barbi007@kc.rr.com and let me know if you are "in" or "out"!  Thanks to everyone... we'll work on making it even more fun here!

HDH046 - Wacko Jacko's

HDH Macabre Monday Rules:
1. Create a dark and macabre SOMETHING (card, scrap page, altered item, whatever) that follows the specific Macabre Monday challenge given. Cutesy is fine, but creepy is better :)
2. You have until the following Sunday night @ 5pm central time to post your creation and please leave a direct-link back here.
3. If you upload to any online galleries (TACPCC, S&S, PCP, SCS, etc.), please tag the title using HDH046.

He/she will be asked to be a guest blogger for the following month, if they so wish, and receive a little giftie from me... this could be stamp sets, handmade items, papers, halloweenie embellishments... you just never know.

Ok, my little pretties... your challenge this week:
Wacko Jacko's

You are to create a dark, Gothic, or Halloween page, project or card using images of pumpkins and/or jack-o-lanterns.  Sinister smiling, gutted, sliced,  jacko's left to rot... this has GOT to be an easy one in which to participate, right?!  AND you can earn a bonus entry into this week's prize drawing if you also share a photo of your favorite jack-o-lantern... it can be one that you created yourself or one that is over-the-top awesome that you've found elsewhere.  Sound like fun?  I KNOW!

Later today (Monday)  I'll announce the Gruesome Twosomes for the past few challenges AND the June 2010 Master of the Macabre!  AND I'll address the "poll" results from this past week very soon!

HDH045 Macabre Monday challenge...

Thought I'd post this before the weekend gets too far away from me.  Of course it didn't help that I slept in until 10am!!!  I KNOW.  But, I didn't go to bed until the wee hours of the morning, so it's not like I'm THAT big of a loser :)  I was up watching some LAME horror movie... I didn't even wait until the end to change the channel... yeah, THAT lame.

Anyway, on to today's bit of creepy cuteness :)  I FINALLY finished my entry for this week's masking challenge!  And so sorry... it IS cute.  :)

I had the idea for this since I first saw this set in the new TAC catalogue at seminar.  Well, I didn't have the broom and hat in mind, but the rest... definitely.  I admit, it looked better in my head... it looks kinda cluttered and busy now.  I should have left off the broom & hat... but I LOVE that broom stamp.  And isn't she such a cute little witch... all ready for bed in her pink curlers?!

Stamps:  Movie Night, Spring Dream and All Season Swirls (retired TAC), broom (Battle Axe), sentiment (Viva Las Vegas)
Paper:  Penelope & brown cardstocks, Cougar white cardstock
Other:  Lime Stickles
Copics:  0, YR02, YR04, YR07, YR18, YR23, YR24, YG01, YG03, YG91, V01, V06, V09, RV02, RV10, RV11, RV13, E09, E31, E35, E53, E57, E59, BG02

Here is the original stamp image (above).  I masked over the little girl on the left.  I LOVE the hair curlers.  They make me smile.  They remind me of when I was a very little girl... I would watch my sisters & mom put them in their hair.  I also masked the sentiment/swirls & a teensie bit of the broom.

So much fun to color... I need to work on my wood floor technique more.  Maybe I should google you-tube that.  Her hair & face turned out awesome, me thinks.

What do you think?

Random poll question:

Since I have been sucking (in a bad way) at posting, and keeping up on schtuff... should I enlist the help of you good (or evil) readers?  I guess it would be KINDA like a design team, but since I don't own some awesome stamp store, compensation would be a whole separate poll question :)

(HDH design team picture stolen from Google images)

See, when I first started this little ol' blog, I thought I would be surfing the net, finding all kinds of random creepy and weird stuff to post... photos, links, whatever.  How much of THAT has gone on here?
Exactly... notsomuch.  Busy busy... which is good in some ways & NOT in others :)

Sooooooooo, what should we do?  I am definitely keeping Macabre Mondays going, but right now I don't know very far in advance as to what the challenge will be.
{to be read as:  drum up something the night before or night of posting :) }
procrastinate much?

I need to bite the bullet and figure stuff out a minimum of a month ahead
(haaaa haa haaaa.... oh, sorry)
IF I do that, maybe we could do a little team thing?  I don't know... what do you think?
I'm just randomly typing crap here, guys :)

What would suck (in a bad way) is that if we get a team going and then no participation in challenges happen except team people... know what I'm sayin'?  So, please please let me know your thoughts...
I really DO appreciate all of you!
you are the skull to my crossbones
the wand to my spells
the nail in my coffin... er, ummm...

Please excuse the brain lapse...

... but if you have not received a prize package that you are due, please email asap to:  barbi007@kc.rr.com !  If you happen to know for which HDH challenge, that would be a bonus.  I'm playing catch-up this weekend, and I am even going to try to pre-package some for future winners.
{Hellooooooo... there's a freakin' concept}

I apologize profusely for my tardiness in getting these to you, ladies... I'm really not this flaky... normally :)  Now that my annual direct-sales seminar is over, I will hopefully be more focused!  Thanks!!!
